Our first plans for today were to go to Blizzard Beach and later in the afternoon to the Hollywood Studios for our Fantasmic reservation at Mama Melrose’s. Only the weather threw a ‘little’ spanner in the works. It rained a lot and there was thunder in the air. So, Blizzard Beach was not an option.
But first we went to the Supercalifragilistic Breakfast at the Grand Floridian with Mary Poppins. We have been here before with the children. And at their own request, here we are again.
The breakfast is really good. It’s a buffet and caters for all tastes.
Mary Poppins, Bert, the Mad Hatter, Alice, Winnie the Pooh and Tigger come around at the tables. They were just in the other room, so it would be some time until they would come to us. We are in no hurry, so we wait patiently.
After about half an hour ‘only’ Tigger had visited yet. The people who sat at the table next to us, had sat there for a long time, and were clearly a bit fed up and let the waitress know. She apparently already saw her tips evaporate, so she was very impatient and hurried. So we got all of a sudden, while we were still eating, the check, literally, pushed under our noses. We did not have to hurry, but she came by a few times to check whether it was filled in! The breakfast was really good, but this quickly got boring and was not very Disney-like!
Yet the characters appeared quite fast. First came Winnie the Pooh to give a hug, followed by Mary Poppins with Bert. Hey, we already knew him, as Bert was the same as yesterday (along with a different Mary) at the carousel in the Magic Kingdom! Alice and the Mad Hatter came by for a chat as well. And then we’d seen all of them. Our waitress could be happy again, for there was now quite some free space for new guests!
Because Blizzard Beach was not going to happen today, we chose to relax in our villa. And you know, that was definitely not boring! After noon we went to the Wal-mart and Best Buy. Geordi has his birthday money to spend this trip. Eventually, we could talk him out of buying the Space Shuttle. This was marked 16 + because there are so many small parts in the kit. So if he would buy it, he would not be able to play with it! Well if you’re 8 years old, you want to play with Lego and not just watch it from a distance!
He now chose Lego Atlantis. A surprising choice, because before we went to America he loved Star Wars Lego. But hey, it’s his money. He has at least spent it on a lot of fun!
Samantha has bought a kind of Bratz doll, so she was again happy. We bought some sunglasses (also for in the car). We succeeded very well, allthough the majority of our purchases were really for the children!
After Wal-mart we went to Party City, but unfortunately there was no Halloween stuff. Maybe later this week, Samantha hopes so with a passion!
And then there’s the Best Buy.
Because we have a reservation around 5 pm at Mama Melrose’s, it was really time to go back to the villa in order to dump stuff and grab other stuff.
Only when we went to the car it really started to pour and we have seriously wondered: Are we donning our ponchos and do we get out, or do we go back to the villa and see. I especially feared that tonight Fantasmic was not going to happen anymore because of the weather. On the other hand, this is Florida and the weather can change quickly!
We decided to take the gamble anyway, put on our ponchos and went to the restaurant. No it was not very nice weather, but on the other hand this does mean it is pretty quiet in the park! But on the way to the restaurant it already stopped raining. We were certainly not the only one at Mama Melrose’s that wanted to eat. It was seriously busy. We found that people tried to get out of the rain and tried to check in for their ADR ahead of time to wait the rain out over dinner. That yielded a lot of grumpy people who felt they really had to wait too long for their turn. But hey, we have time on our hands and it seemed of little use to start grumbling. Perhaps that’s why we already got our turn reasonably quickly…
The food was excellent. We had first ordered an antipasti. That was really something for everyone and tasted fine. Geordi had a pepperoni pizza, I a pepperoni flat bread (AKA Pizza), Samantha has discovered during this holiday that she likes shrimp and so she had pasta with shrimp and Miriam ordered a sirloin steak. It tasted fine, but it doesn’t win from the steak at the Outback.
The kids ordered ice cream for dessert, I an Amaretti Cheesecake and Miriam had a kind of tiramisu ice. But it was half melted, the lady finger was quite soggy. Not so good. The waitress wanted to bring another, but Miriam declined.
So then we calmly walked to the theater where Fantasmic was held. We had another perfect place! Only we had to wait quite a while, but we were willing to do that.
We laughed a lot at Samantha. She wanted to buy something with lights from her own money. There was downstairs in the amphitheater a little booth with light-gadgets in all kinds of different models. So Samantha went to take a look. Came back and said the Mickey ears were $ 10 and then went on enumerating what they had. But what did those cost then? Hehehe, she did not know and went back downstairs to ask. Emerges again to tell what more she had seen, but again did not know what those things cost … so back again.
Ultimately she got the Mickey ears. Sam happy, but tired of walking back and forth!
It remained dry and we were very glad that we had earlier in the parking lot decided to stay and to go for it. Although I thought a little differently, because my shoes were soaked thanks to my son!
Fantasmic was again fantastic and we really enjoyed it. Miriam was very happy because she now finally managed to get a good picture of Mickey as Sorcerer’s Apprentice on top of the cliff!
After Fantasmic, we went back towards our car. The children have really had great fun again and Geordi could not stop talking (but then again he never can…)!
