We already booked a back-up hotel in New Jersey, on the opposite side of the Hudson River. But we really wanted to be in a Downtown New York hotel… One of the primary reasons being that we’ll be landing at JFK Airport at the end of the afternoon. If we then have a hotel in New Jersey hebben (nothing wrong with that by itself), we did not think we’d easily board a bus or metro to quickly pop in to New York City proper. Especially given the limited amount of time in New York, being Downtown just is the preferred option.
Earlier we kept a close eye on the Hotwire and Priceline sites. But in the process werealized we didn’t feel very comfortable with that. Of course saving bucks is always good. But we couldn’t get any guarantees that the offered hotel rooms really can host 4 people. Especially since we’re travelling with younger kids, this is a risk we weren’t willing to take. So we started paying close attention to the sites of miscellaneous hotel chains and today we got lucky! Twice actually! First we had quickly booked, because Miriam had to go and they only had one room at that rate left, the Comfort Inn at the begin of the afternoon. Because once gone, it’s gone! By now we figured out that rooms for 4 persons aren’t very common, unless you are willing topartwith a fortune!
But a few minutes ago we cancelled the reservation and went for the Grand Hyatt instead. The Grand Hyatt is a more luxurious hotel, the room rates were (for us) pretty interesting and it is on a great location. Close to Times Square, Next to the Chrysler Building and on top of Grand Central Terminal.
Miriam is strutting around the room like a peacock!
We’ll be keeping our eyes out for even better deals, but for now…
