Of course as expected, this morning around 4AM all of us were awake. And it did not look like we, either of us, would fall asleep again.

Better enjoy the view while it’s still dark outside. Then yet again to try to sleep.

Unexpectedly, we’ve all fallen back asleep and didn’t wake again until about half past seven! Not bad!

So make sure that we all get dressed quickly, so we could have breakfast.

Starting today we’ve stopped counting down. Because what do we need to count down to? The suitcases are packed already since yesterday. Miriam was in shock… Where she’d normally have to pack, remove and repack due to over packing, she now stayed well under weight. And that makes her worry… “Did I forget anything?” But I convinced her quickly (and that takes bravery on her part) that if we did forget something, they’ll surely sell it in the USA!

A few months ago when we decided to make this trip it was, certainly for Miriam, far into the future. It was a nice little something to look forward to, but otherwise she was really too busy to be concerned about it.

This changed once she got the annual fair done! Then her travel itch started itching too. I have certainly noticed that, because she started suddenly to ‘interfere’ with things. Help finding hotels, help with the itinerary, etc. Sometimes she better not ‘interfere’, since usually what she thought of was already taken care of a long time ago. But now and then she surely had a few useful additions!

We already booked a back-up hotel in New Jersey, on the opposite side of the Hudson River. But we really wanted to be in a Downtown New York hotel… One of the primary reasons being that we’ll be landing at JFK Airport at the end of the afternoon. If we then have a hotel in New Jersey hebben (nothing wrong with that by itself), we did not think we’d easily board a bus or metro to quickly pop in to New York City proper. Especially given the limited amount of time in New York, being Downtown just is the preferred option.

We booked another hotel! Rochester this time, between New York city and Niagara Falls! To make sure the trips aren’t too long, we wanted to make a stop alonge the way, but not too far from Niagara Falls, so we’ll be able to arrive at a reasonable time the next day…

First we checked out Syracuse, but over there it was either very expensive, òr dodgy review (“Watch out for bed bugs”?) òr in a bad neighborhood… So we then checked the area before Syracuse, but there aren’t very many hotels along that route, and the first town that showed some promise was Cortland, but even that was only so so! Through the Dutch forum ‘Orlando tips’ we found the website of Attraction Tickets Direct. We still needed tickets for (a.o.) Seaworld and Islands of Adventure, so we started snooping around the site. Who knows what we’ll find…

It is beginning to look like we’ll really be going to the USA again next summer… 🙂
